DIY Fall Sports Apparel with DTF Transfers

DIY Sports Apparel Sep 11, 2025

Fall means one thing for many of us crafters: team spirit! Whether you're making jerseys for a rec league, spirit wear for the whole family, or custom fan gear for game day, DTF transfers are the easiest and most professional way to go. Forget trying to perfectly align vinyl numbers on a jersey or layer different colors—DTF allows you to press an entire design in one go.

I love using the Gildan G185 Heavy Blend™ Hoodie as my blank. It’s a cozy 50/50 blend that's perfect for a crisp fall evening, and it's a great canvas for DTF transfers. In fact, Jiffy customers are using DTF transfers for team, school, and event apparel.

How to Press DTF on Apparel

It’s a instant peel application, but a few small tweaks will ensure a flawless result.

  1. Pre-Press: Always press your blank for 3-5 seconds to remove any moisture and wrinkles. This is a crucial step for a strong bond.
  2. The Pressing: Place your transfer, film side up, on your hoodie. Press it at 320°F for 10-15 seconds with firm pressure.
  3. The Instant Peel: Immediately after pressing, peel the clear film away while the design is still hot.
  4. Final Press: Cover your design with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and press again for 5-10 seconds to lock in durability.
