Beyond the Tee! DTF Transfers on Jiffy Sweatshirts & Hoodies
Okay, so you've seen how DTF transfers work on t-shirts, but what about thicker materials? Hoodies and sweatshirts can be a bit intimidating with a heat press because of their seams, hoods, and pockets. But with a little knowledge, you can create professional, lasting designs on your favorite cozy blanks.
My secret? The Jiffy Gildan G185 Heavy Blend™ Hoodie and Gildan G180 Heavy Blend™ Crewneck Sweatshirt. Both are a soft 50/50 cotton-polyester blend, which is the perfect canvas for DTF transfers.
How to Press DTF on Hoodies & Sweatshirts
It’s a hot peel application, but a few small tweaks to your pressing technique will make a big difference.
- Pre-Press is Key: Before placing your transfer, press your blank for 3-5 seconds to remove any moisture and wrinkles. This is super important for a good bond.
- Use a Pressing Pillow: To get even pressure over seams, zippers, and pockets, slide a pressing pillow inside the garment.
- The Pressing: Place your transfer on your hoodie. We're doing a hot peel, so press it at 320°F for 15 seconds with firm pressure.
- The Hot Peel: Immediately after pressing, peel the clear film away while it’s hot.
- Final Press: To truly lock in the durability, cover your design with a piece of parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and press again for 5-10 seconds.
